In today’s world it doesn’t take much to snap a photo. However finding a good photographer in Modeling can mean a career or not! With these dire consequences at hand we must make sure that the one we choose is the right one! Whether you are in New York City, Detroit, Dallas, Miami, Los Vegas, or Las Angeles there are a few tips that will remain the same. Below are some tips to remember when choosing a good photographer.

Tip 1: Referral- When you are choosing a good photographer in the world of modeling you must always know that they are good at what they do before you hire them. The best way to do this is getting a referral from someone in the field of modeling you know. Since they have already worked with them they can give you more information about them.

Tip 2: Experience- do not be afraid to ask them what experience they have had in photography. Asking them questions will give you a better understanding about them. After all in modeling the pictures are a big chuck of landing jobs. Ask for schooling and papers they may have to prove it. This will keep you well informed.

Tip 3: Equipment- Finding out what type of equipment they have and will be using is important. After all a photographer is only as good as his last photo.

Keeping these things in mind will help you find a photographer that meets your needs and can get you the jobs you deserve. Remember don’t be afraid to ask the questions. The only stupid question is the one not asked!

Companies on a Rampage: Poor Ethics and Bad Manners in Modeling World

•August 4, 2008 • No Comments

The telephone rings- “Hello” I say with a smile “This is XYZ Company and I am looking for the perfect model. So far we had no luck finding the right measurements and I was wondering if you could help me” she says politely “Well I am not sure but we will certainly try our best.” I say with a glistening smile. I spent several weeks checking for the measurements until we found Amy! She was a gem and I rushed to let them know. They were very pleased with our success.

Amy did the event and when it was time to pay…..we say a whole new side of XYZ Company. They said that we did not find the model for them…that we were merely scoundrels looking for money…”

Freeze frame—

“Ethics is a big part if not the biggest part in business…treating people like this is the worst thing a business could do to another business…besides stealing customers of course!”

Anyway–

“We took them to court with all our evidence…voice recordings…and emails…etc…and the XYZ Company decided to settle out of court…how much? Our secret!”

The moral of this story? Don’t treat others this way. Whether you are in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Atlantic City, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, or Los Vegas it is unethical and it degrades your company as well as all that work for you. Venus Models Online doesn’t put up with it and neither should you!

Tip 1: Remember to Be Yourself: This is important because it will show up on the shoot. You must be relaxed and never be afraid to let them know how you feel. This will help you gain focus and more control over how your photos come out. Lets face it everything comes out on camera.

Tip 2: Prepare your Portfolio: It is very important that you provide clear, head shots and body shots. They will want to see what you look like. It is best that these photos are taken by a professional to get the best quality photographs possible.

Tip 3: Limit the amount of makeup used in the photos: This will allow the agent to see what you really look like. It will give them a better idea of what they are working with.

Tip 4: Be on time! This is an important part of modeling. Show up early if you can to fill out paperwork or any additional requirements the agent or agency may have for you. Be professional at all times.

We hope this tips will lead you in the right direction…

Modeling Tips: Finding an Agent

•July 10, 2008 • No Comments

Breaking into the world of modeling is quite a challenge in todays competitive world. However there are some things you can do to not only improve your chances in finding a good agent but also to protect yourself when you find one. Finding an agent shouldn’t be all about if they will accept you; you must be satisfied with them as well.

Below are a few tips to help you out:

Tip 1: Build a suitable portfolio- This is a very important step. Any agency you go too will want to see your portfolio. Setting up quality head shots will help them see you. Make sure they are taken with mild make-up and they are able to see your face clearly. It is important not to overdo them it will be hard for the agent to see the working template if there is too much or your face is hidden.

Tip 2: Be Persistent- This is important because there will be many “Rejections” in your search. You must understand that just because you are not suitable for one agent doesn’t mean you are not perfect for the next. Keeping high spirits will make it easier to move to the next prospective agent.

Tip 3: Find an Agent You are Comfortable with- Learning to be confident in yourself and not settling is another important step. Find an agent you feel comfortable working with take your time and remember you are placing your career in their hands.

Tip 4: Make sure your Interests are Protected- Quite often when someone places a contract before us we are so excited we don’t read it thoroughly. Be sure you take your time and don’t rush into it. If you are not sure about the contract take it to a lawyer have them read it. If they are a good agent they will understand.

Take your modeling seriously and don’t rush it. It will come just have the confidence and don’t settle for what looks good!

Modeling Tips 101: Searching for an Agent

•July 6, 2008 • No Comments

Making the decision to become a model is a big one for many. The truth is entering this world without the proper representation can mean a loss of good talent. Ensuring you have the best possible agent in your corner can do wonders for your career!

Here are a few tips to help you determine the right agent for you:

Tip 1: Determine what area of modeling you are interested in: There are many sections, or areas of modeling you can work in. Not all agents are good for every area. Find out what you are comfortable doing before you start looking for an agent. This will help you determine who you need to contact.

A Few Categories are:

Commercial model-

Magazine Model

Events Model

Runway Model

Tip 2: Find out what agents are best in your field- You want to research what agents in your area are the best. There are many ways you can do this. The Internet can provide you a wealth of information at the click of your fingers. Searching your favorite models in your field and finding out who represents them, or just searching “Agents” can give you the heads up on your industry.

Tip 3: Make sure the modeling agent you choose is right for you- Not all agents are good matches with everyone. If you don’t feel comfortable with them don’t use them. Try to contact them…ask questions see how they react to your questions. Getting a feel for the agent before you make any decisions is best.

* Note- Do not sign anything until you know you are comfortable with them!

Overall the decision is up to you on who you decide to go with. Just remember that you should be comfortable with them! Don’t let anyone pressure you into signing with them! Try to have a lawyer that can read all the contracts before you sign them and explain them to you…if your not sure make sure to ask!

Venus Models Online/Event Staffing Tips

•July 3, 2008 • No Comments

Hi, This is Venus Hurst a booking agent from Venus Models Online I have been in the business for 7 years booking talent. I would like to talk to you today about having a successful special event when you’re giving a trade show, promotional event, or any special event.

With me being well versed in the business, I know most of my clients have big complaints about other agencies.

The biggest complaint I get from my customers when booking talent through other agencies they get a lot of no call no shows. This gives an event planner decrees in the success of the event. To avoid no call no shows I have some tips for you. When booking talent with companies do these things

1. Make sure you make it very clear to your booking agent it is very important that each model/talent show up to work on time
2. Ask your agent or agency if the staff provided is under contract with them this will decrees the level of no shows.
3.  Ask your booking agent is there anything in place in the agreement where the talent pays a fine if he or she does show up for work ( this gives the talent an incentive to show up for work)

Tips providing by Venus Hurst from Venus Models Online!
